Start your engines: Hyper Runner, the new futuristic time-based racing game from Darkage Software, is heading to Amiga, CD32 and FPGA/emulator setups this autumn — and the physical editions are ready to reserve right now.
Set in a high-speed future, Hyper Runner puts players behind the controls of five distinct vehicles, each with its own handling characteristics. Pair your ride with one of twelve pilots — every one of them tweaking top speed, acceleration, maneuverability and durability — and race across five stages that branch into two possible paths apiece, for a total of 16 different routes across 15 unique stages.
It’s not just about speed. A countdown timer keeps the pressure on as you dodge rival racers and track hazards that can slow you down or damage your vehicle outright. A limited-energy power booster lets you push for extra pace or blast past the competition when it matters most — use it wisely, since it only refills gradually. Along the way, power-ups like hull repair kits, booster refills and extra time can turn a race around.
